OVERVIEW
The USGLSA supports ballast water management practices as expounded in the "Code of Best Management Practices" and now required by the Seaway Agencies for entrance into the Great Lakes system ( http://www.greatlakes-seaway.com/en/navigation/notice20030321f.html).
Additionally, the USGLSA supports USCG requirements to make ballast water exchange mandatory for all coastlines of the United States. USCG information on ballast water management may be found atUSCG Environmental Standards Division.

IMO – ballast water documentary film
The IMO issued a News Release stating that the documentary film “Invaders from the Sea” has been released. The film, produced by the IMO in cooperation with the BBC, shows harmful organisms that may be transported in ballast water and the progress made in reducing the risk of invasive species through ballast water technology and management. (3/24/06).
